Police Officer of the Year

This event is one of the premier events for the Exchange Club of Aurora and is a celebration of “Aurora’s finest.” Every spring, nominations are solicited from Aurora Police Department for police officers who have demonstrated exemplary service during the preceding year. A committee of Exchange Club members choose the individual selected as Police Officer of the Year.

2015 Police Officer of the Year - Ofc. Dean M. Tucker

On June 17th, 2015 Officer Tucker was dispatched to the 1700 block of N. Edgelawn Ave. in Aurora in responce to a traffic collision. One of the vehicles involved in the crash had driven into a nearcy retention pond.

Once he arrived, Tucker talked with witnesses who said the other car was completely underwater. He then saw a body float to the surface about 40 yards into the pond.

Tucker stripped off his duty gear, swam out to the body and determined it was a girl. He kept her afloat and swam back to shore, needing a hand from another officer at the end because he was extremely fatigued, police said.
